First Free Shoot

In this photo is a cat named Moonshine posing for a picture.

Moonshine laying down in the warm weather.

Moonshine playing in the grass.

Moonshine watching a dog walk by.

-What I was mostly happy about was that the lighting outside was very good for taking photos. What I would do differently is to try and find a better background. I learned that there are different types of backgrounds and lighting for different photos.

Lightroom Presets

What can presets do for you?
Presets have all these different settings and if you need help with improving a picture then you would most likely use different kinds of presets.

Nicolesy's Matte Presets for adobe Lightroom 5

Color Creative-Color CP 2

The reason I picked this preset was because I like the effect it gave the picture. The lighting around the edges is darker than the middle. I also like how the letters on the window stand out more.

RAW vs. JPEG

Part 1:

What are three advantages of a RAW file?
- Will give you much more control over how your image looks
-Corrects mistakes you might have made when taking the picture
-You change the settings on the color range and sharpness

What is one disadvantage of a RAW file?
-RAW files are less sharp then JPEG files

What are the three advantages of a JPEG file?
-Internal software is quickly processed  and saved
-Shoots more photos then RAW
-"Throws away" anything unnecessary in the photo

What is one disadvantage of a JPEG file?
-Some of the color is lost while "cleaning" the photo

Part 2:

Write your own sentence definition of what a JPEG file is.
A JPEG file is a file that is shot with a camera and you can change any of its settings and it will fix the picture automatically but will lose its data each time you change it.

Write your own sentence definition of what a RAW file is.
A RAW file is typically a proprietary format that is not suitable for printing directly from a camera, not sharp, but is higher in dynamic range.

Part 3:

Under the first heading "Capturing the Images," how much of the data does a RAW file retain after it is captured by the camera?
It retains all the information without compressing it and saving all the information in all the pixels within the image.

Under the second heading "Processing the Files," what are some of the things that a RAW file enables a photographer to edit after the image is taken?
You have to process the image in order to get all of the data and compress it together

Under the third heading "Practicalities," what are some of the factors that photographers must consider when deciding to shoot in RAW?
-Not every digital camera has the option to shoot in RAW format
-RAW files are significantly larger than JPEG files
-You can convert RAW into JPEG, but not the other way around

Under the fourth heading "Which one is for you?" why would an aspiring professional photographer need to know how to work with RAW files?
If you want to expand your greater flexibility and processing options

Part 4:

Make a list of three occasions it would be better to shoot in RAW.
-Magazine Covers
-Portraits
-Landscape

-Sporting Events
-Weddings

Sunny 16 Rule Notes

We should learn the Sunny 16 Rule because it helps you improve on your pictures and it helps make you capture better images

Sunny 16 Rule
-The proper exposure is determined by the ISO of the film/sensor setting
- ISO 100
-For ISO 100, at mid day(10am-5pm) outdoors with sunlit mid-toned object, set aperture at F16, and the shutter speed at 1/ISO or 1/100th

Light Conditions              Shadow Detail             Aperture
Snow/Sand                  Dark with sharp edges          F/22
Sunny                                 Distinct                           F/16
Slight Overcast               Soft around edges              F/11
Overcast                            Barely Visible                 F/8
Heavy Overcast                  No Shadows                  F/5.6
Open Shade/Sunset             No shadows                  F/4
Backlighting                            n/a                      Add one stop

Aperture, Shutter speed, and ISO Review

F2.8

F16

What part of the body should we closely relate aperture?
The person/object that is closest to the camera.

The smaller the Aperture the greater the depth, the higher the Aperture the smaller the depth.

In your own words tell me how aperture impacts Depth of Field?
Aperture impacts Depth of Field by making the main subject sharp and the background blurry during a large f-stop and the opposite during a small f-stop.

List all of the F-stops available on the lens
F3.5, F4, F4.5, F5, F5.6, F6.3, F7.1, F8, F9, F10, F11, F13, F14, F16, F18, F20, F22, F25, F29

What is the highest and smaller aperture numbers available on the kit lens?
F3.5 & F29

Part II

High Shutter Speed

Slow Shutter Speed

A.)High Shutter Speed
B.)Medium Shutter Speed
C.)High Shutter Speed
D.)Slow Shutter Speed
E.)Slow Shutter Speed
F.)High Shutter Speed

When its dark outside:

A.)High Shutter Speed
B.)Slow Shutter Speed
C.)Slow Shutter Speed
D.)Slow Shutter Speed
E.)Slow Shutter Speed
F.)High Shutter Speed

List the manual presets that allow you to affect shutter speed on your camera.
Shutter Priority & Manual Mode

How does each one work
Shutter priority- Where you decide the shutter speed and the camera automatically sets the aperture for you.
Manual Mode- Where you choose your own shutter speed and aperture by hand.

Part III

ISO 200

ISO 6400

What are the advantages of shooting at a higher ISO at a sporting event like basketball or night football?
You get more detail in the picture even when they're constantly moving.

What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO?
You should always try to stay with low ISO especially when there's plenty of light.

What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO?
You should increase the ISO when there is little light and you have to capture the image quickly.
